Nancy S. Juetten is a publicist who speaks and teaches business owners about generating their own publicity for free. She also writes the Main Street Media Savvy blog, and this week she published a post that sums up some of the information she shared during a recent speaking engagement at the Women in Business Forum at Meydenbauer Center called 15 Ways to Earn a Reputation as an Expert in Your Field.

Nancy provides some great tips for positioning yourself as an expert. What I like most about her list is that every suggestion on it is something you can implement immediately. From starting a blog or website to writing a killer bio, there is nothing on the list that you can’t start doing today to establish yourself as an expert. It’s all about building a platform and a brand identity. Take the steps in Nancy’s list and you’ll be on your way!

Remember, don’t wait for someone else to promote you, instead, promote yourself and others will follow.

Join the Age of Conversation Bum Rush on March 29th

The Age of Conversation

In early in 2007, Gavin Heaton and Drew McLellan challenged bloggers around the world to contribute one page — 400 words — on the topic of “conversation”. The resulting book, The Age of Conversation, brings together over 100 of the world’s leading marketers, writers, thinkers and creative innovators in a ground-breaking and unusual publication.

The proceeds from the sale of the book (cost less printing and publisher’s commission) go to Variety, the Children’s Charity. The editors of, and contributors to, this book have waived their rights to royalties in support of this charitable cause.

The Age of Conversation Bum Rush: Saturday, March 29, 2008

Saturday, March 29, 2008 has been tagged as The Age of Conversation Bum Rush. What does that mean? It’s simple. The authors, editors and fans of the book are joining forces to raise awareness and drive sales for the book on a single day. The goal is to drive the book up the bestseller list thereby boosting the amount of money raised to help this charitable effort.

If you’re interested, please follow the link to buy The Age of Conversation through Amazon. Using this link will help Drew and Gavin track the results of the Bum Rush effort.

The Age of Conversation 2

The Age of Conversation was successful enough during its first year that a second edition will be written in 2008 called The Age of Conversation: Why Don’t People Get It? I’m thrilled to be one of 275 bloggers who will be contributing to this book. You can read more about the upcoming book and the authors on Drew’s Marketing Minute.

Susan Pinker’s new book, “The Sexual Paradox: Men, Women and the Real Gender Gap” was released this month, and I found this interesting YouTube video through BizWomen.com.  Take a look then leave a comment and let me know what you think.

I’m curious to hear if anyone has had a chance to read the book yet and can expound on Pinker’s discussions in the video.  Her book is reportedly a bit controversial, and the video does raise some questions.  I haven’t read it, so I’d be interested to hear some of your opinions.

wecaimembersmThe deadline for inclusion in the Women’s eCommerce Assocation (WECAI) Who’s Who Directory of Women in eCommerce that I first posted about back in early February has been extended to March 28th. Basic listings are free, so this sounds like a great way to network and promote your online business.

You can read more details on the Who’s Who in eCommerce website.

BrainBasedBusinessDr. Ellen Weber is the author of Know More Media’s Brain Based Business blog. I am happy to be one of her blogging colleagues at Know More Media (I write Marketing Blurb for the network). Dr. Weber not only writes about how to benefit at work by using brain-based insights, but she is also the director of MITA International Brain Based Center in New York. Her credentials are impressive to say the least.

Recently, Dr. Weber was interviewed for an article that was featured on the cover of the March issue of HR Magazine, which is published by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM - the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to human resource management).

In the article entitled “The Brain at Work: Science is Shedding Light on Why People Behave the Way They Do and How to Better Manage Them”, Dr. Weber provides a number of quotes to help readers understand the brain’s effect on work performance. I particularly like Dr. Weber’s perspective in the following snippet from the article: Continue reading »

Yesterday, I published a link to an interview I did with BlogHer.com COO and co-founder Elisa Camahort Page.  I’ve been a member of BlogHer.com for quite awhile now, and I just joined the BlogHer Ads network as well.  I think BlogHer.com is a great resource for women bloggers, and I hope I can make it to one of the BlogHer conferences in the future.

Currently, BlogHer is conducting a reader survey, and to encourage participation, they’re holding a random drawing among everyone who completes the survey.  The winner will receive a free pass to the BlogHer event of his or her choice (yes, men and women can attend the BlogHer events).  There are three BlogHer conferences to choose from (prize value up to $1,199.00).  If you’d like to take the survey and try to win a free pass to a BlogHer event, just follow the link to take the BlogHer survey.

Good luck!

BlogHerLogoBusinesswomen bloggers may find an article I wrote on About.com’s Web Logs site this week to be very interesting. I interviewed the co-founder and COO of BlogHer.com, Elisa Camahort Page. Elisa was kind enough to share a lot of great tips to help bloggers leverage BlogHer.com to promote their blogs, learn and grow.

Take a look when you have a few minutes. Just click the following link to the BlogHer interview.

Please leave a comment either directly on the interview at About.com Web Logs or here on this post at Women On Business and share any tips or ideas you have to use BlogHer or either sites to market your blog and network. I love to add resources to Women On Business for other businesswomen bloggers to learn about and experiment with.
