Female Entrepreneur Personality TestThis past week, Robin Matuk who writes the Creating with Impact blog contacted me after finding Women on Business. I’m so happy she reached out to me because that gave me the chance to discover her blog, too, and I have to say, I love her blog. Robin provides great information and tips for female entrepreneurs.

One of the first things I spotted on Robin’s blog is her Entrepreneur Personality Test. Robin lists eight personality traits a woman should have (or aspire to have) in order to be a successful entrepreneur.

The Entrepreneur Personality Test tells women that to be a successful entrepreneur you need to be:

  • Flexible
  • A risk-taker
  • Willing to step out of your comfort zone
  • Dedicated and committed to achieving a goal
  • Creative
  • Willing to learn

Can you think of any other traits that a female entrepreneur should have or try to develop in order to be successful?

    Hello Susan:
I coach women entrepreneurs and I can think of a few other traits that are needed to start out on your own. You need to:

    - enjoy working independently
    - be self-displined
    - take responsiblity for your successes & failures
    - hold to an idea even when others disagree
    - be willing to do a job you don’t enjoy

The most important thing however is to do something you are passionate about. My believe is that when we use our natural talents to do something we love we will be succesful.

    To your success,
    Maureen

    Maureen,

Thanks for your great additions. I completely agree with all five of the traits you listed. You also make a great point about choosing to pursue something you’re passionate about. That can make all the difference in the world when it comes to long term success.

    Hi Susan,

Thanks for the mention. I’d like to add one trait that wasn’t in my original post: accepting of constructive criticism or rejection. Entrepreneurs are ready to be laughed at and criticized in the beginning because they can see their path ahead and are too busy working towards their dream.

Ethical. Women generally tend to be more prone to solid ethics than men, but it is nonetheless a noteworthy reminder for any businesswoman to keep in mind.

I spend a lot of time coaching people who want to start their businesses. One trait that is very important is flexibility. You may have to change paths if one gets blocked; you can’t just sit there and whine (like “who stole my cheese?”). Get up and find another way, because there is always another way.

Robin, You’re right, while it can be hard to take negative criticism and rejection, it’s unfortunately, highly likely as an entrepreneur.

Ashley, I agree. It’s essential that ethics are always at the forefront of everything we do in business. Thanks for adding that to the list!

Jean, I think flexibility definitely needs to go toward the top of the list of required traits to be a successful entrepreneur. It seems nothing ever goes quite as planned, and flexibility is key to keep the ball rolling toward the end goal despite the bumps in the road.
