People often think that when they enter the work force, that’s it. Yes, you might gradually move up the chain of command, but is this even the industry you want to be in?
Below are 10 signs that you actually might need an entire career change.
1. Learning on the Brain
If you’re spending a large portion of your day Googling universities and online courses from places like Evocca College, then your mind already knows it wants to get out. Looking at what your options are study-wise is a great first step to steering your career path in another direction.
2. You Don’t Want to Get out of Bed
Yes, everyone feels like this sometimes, but it shouldn’t become debilitating. If you’re snoozing your alarm every 5 minutes to avoid getting up, it’s not necessarily the day you don’t want to face, but what you have to do with that day that’s the problem.
3. You Take Work Home
Taking work home on occasion is sometimes a necessity. It shouldn’t be consuming your home life completely though. If you don’t have a proper work life balance, relationships can become threatened, as well as your own mental stability.
4. Boredom
If you don’t find your work challenging enough, to the point where you spend a large amount of your day twiddling your thumbs, then you’re probably bored and need to find some new form of stimulation.
5. You’re Constantly Anxious
You’re definitely anxious if you are always breathless and heavy in the chest. Anxiety is a line dangerously close to depression, so think carefully about restructuring your life if this is the stage you’re at.
6. Withdrawal from Your Family
If you’re fighting with the people you love more often, it’s often due to an outside source. You take your frustrations out on the people you love, and if your current career is driving you nuts, change it before you really hurt them.
7. Constantly Unfocused
Do you have piles of work, but nothing is getting done? If you’re daydreaming more than you’re working then you definitely need a career change.
8. You’re Always Sick
Being unhappy can affect your health substantially. If you always end up with whatever sickness is going around, then your body is not coping with its environment. If this is the case, change it and you’ll be surprised at how quickly your health improves.
9. Late for Work
If you’re late for work every day, then you don’t want to be there anymore. You need a career that you want to get to early, and that the only reason for being late is a traffic jam.
10. You Interrogate
It’s customary to ask people how work is going, but it shouldn’t become an interrogation. If you find yourself asking people every little detail about their jobs, careers and industries, then you are more interested in another path then the one you’re on now.
The problem is, people will see these signs every day, but still don’t do anything about changing their circumstances. If you don’t look at it seriously though, these signs are just going to boil over. Remember, you only live once, so do yourself, your family, and your current employer a favor, and change your career today.

I’ve noticed these symptoms in myself while at previous jobs. At first you don’t know what’s really going on, but then it begins to dawn on you. These are all really good tips to be aware of as to when they start. Taking some vacation time or having a heart-to-heart with your supervisor that you need more time with your family may be all it takes, at least for a while. I tend to work, work, work and really get burned out. Mind you, being burned out and realizing it’s time to find another job may be two different things with two separate remedies…but, maybe not in some cases. Thanks for sharing!
