Are you one of those people whose mind is always buzzing with thoughts and churning out new ideas? If yes, then you must have also experienced the feeling of defeat or anguish when a wonderful, revolutionary idea slips from your mind before you can even fathom it. Correct?
Whether you are an entrepreneur or a professional, you certainly, at some point in our life, have been lazy or forgetful in terms of writing down that one “great” idea. The worst part is when you are unable to remember it despite all your efforts.
In a world of technology and gadgets, seizing every opportunity or idea that comes to mind every time seems like a rather impossible task, doesn’t it? The fortunate thing is that it isn’t. Here is how you can deal with this:
1. Connect Emotionally
Whenever an idea comes to your mind, connect it with an incident in your life you can relate to easily. For instance, correlate the idea with your own anniversary or your colleague’s birthday party. Even though this is more of an involuntary activity, it will not only help you remember the idea but also let it evolve on its own.
2. Call A Friend or Speak To A Colleague
There’s nothing like a little discussion with people in our lives to help us retain an important thought. Sharing your newly-cultivated idea creates a situation where the other person will ask you about it. Start from the beginning and be thorough. This way, you will not only store the thought in the other person’s head but also remember it yourself.
3. Build An Idea Bank
Since you have lots of ideas floating around your head, the first thing you should do is start an ‘idea bank’ on your phone or laptop—whichever you find most convenient. If you’d prefer, any kind of recording would work as long as you can store the idea.
4. Message Yourself
Go back to the basic use of mobile phones—messaging. Have an idea in mind and you’re afraid to lose it? The key is to message yourself via an e-mail or a text message. It’s the best way to never drop the ball again.
There are just way too many ways to retain an idea (and even evolve one) thanks to technology. You never know what a well-stored idea can turn into if you capture it!
