In 2011, the median weekly earnings for full-time working women was $684, compared to $832 for men (see Gender Wage Gap by the Numbers for details). We also know that the gender wage gap starts immediately after college graduation, and in September 2012, Catalyst put together an interactive tool that enables anyone to learn how big the gender wage gap is in any state (see How Big Is the Gender Wage Gap in Your State? for details).
Now, 24/7 Wall St. conducted an analysis to identify the worst paying states for women. Which states are the top offenders? See for yourself. The statistics below represent the difference in full-time, year-round income between men and women as reported by 24/7 Wall St:
- Wyoming: Women earn $17,838 less than men. 33.3% gender wage gap
- Alaska: Women earn $15,285 less than men. 26.9% gender wage gap
- Louisiana: Women earn $15,130 less than men. 31.7% gender wage gap
- Utah: Women earn $15,094 less than men. 30.7% gender wage gap
- Washington: Women earn $13,979 less than men. 25.1% gender wage gap
- Massachusetts: Women earn $13,924 less than men. 22.7% gender wage gap
- Virginia: Women earn $13,459 less than men. 24.4% gender wage gap
- New Hampshire: Women earn $13,263 less than men. 24.0% gender wage gap
- West Virginia: Women earn $13,327 less than men. 30.2% gender wage gap
- North Dakota: Women earn $12,955 less than women. 27.7% gender wage gap
