NEWS AND INSIGHTS UPDATE:
The key to getting more women in C-Suite positions is making sure leadership development begins while women are still in business schools. That’s a critical factor that’s missing from most business schools but is keeping the gender gap wide in the board room and executive offices according to Daria Burke, Founder and CEO of Black MBA Woman.
Daria explains in an article on The Huffington Post:
“Lack of female leadership is a systemic issue and institutions must continue to work to create more balance in business leadership. Arguably, it starts as early as the first year of business school. Female MBA students need to more frequently pursue the roles and be educated in the skills and unwritten rules that will allow us to participate in wealth creation.
“We simply have to do a better job in supporting the mission of emerging women leaders by taking an active role in their development. Enough with talking about how to learn how to play the cards we’re dealt. Let’s instead figure out how to draw a better hand.”
Daria offers several suggestions to business schools beyond simply recruiting more women into their business programs. From courses to mentoring and networking opportunities, you can get all of the suggestions Daria discusses to prepare women to reach top-level positions by following the link to her full article below.
