NEWS AND INSIGHTS UPDATE:
Another woman in a senior leadership role at Google has left the company. Earlier this year, Marissa Mayer left Google to become the CEO of Yahoo! Yesterday, Google SVP Shona Brown gathered her team to share the news of her departure.
As she spoke to her team, Brown explained three key lessons that she learned during her time at Google, which Patricia Sellers shared on CNNMoney:
- “People are the most important thing.”
- “Integrity is as important as brilliance.”
- “You don’t have to have the highest IQ or EQ–but some combination–to add value to geeks and brainiacs.”
Google might still have twice as many women in leadership positions than Facebook (see the infographic for the details), but the numbers are on the decline. Brown doesn’t believe that Google has trouble keeping capable women in leadership roles. Sellers shares, “‘The sector has a problem.’ Google, [Brown] says, has made huge efforts to find and recruit female tech talent, particularly computer scientists.”
