Running a small business can be the greatest thing you experience as an entrepreneur, to make sure that your business is successful concentrate on strategy. The best thing about strategy is that it creates a roadmap of actionable steps for building your empire, here’s how you start.
Be Willful
I’m a mom first so let me apologize that most of my advice will inevitably find its way to something my kids have said or done. Sad, but in this case so helpful. My youngest daughter is so extraordinarily willful that at times I would rather run away than get into a battle of the wills with her. What I have learned from these battles is that as an entrepreneur, I need that kind of laser focus. I need to know that no matter what obstacles pop up in my way, I will be successful. That kind of willfulness sets the stage for your intentions, you intentions set the stage for your success.
Be ready to see your risks play out
My 17 year old is getting ready to graduate and just about every day I hear myself saying ‘are you ready to experience the consequences of that action?’ This question applies to every situation you will encounter as an entrepreneur. We know to win, we have to make some tricky decisions so when you are sitting there with your head in your hands trying to figure out what to do. Ask yourself after you make whatever move you’re thinking about, ‘are you ready to experience the consequences of that action?’ If the answer is yes, make the move.
You will lead with your actions
I know that you’ve heard this in just about every venue of your life, but nowhere is it more true than in business. See in business, people talk. A lot. There is a conversation about everything, so people believe what you do much more than what you say. If you want a staff of doers, be one. If you want your staff to be innovative, you have to be innovative. Whatever you want, remember you will have to do it first.
You get what you give
The most profound lesson, I have learned is that the more I help other people the more business I get. Maybe not the way I expected and certainly not in the timeframe I would like but every bit of big business I have had, came courtesy of someone I have lent a hand to who was looking for a way to hire me. They knew I knew my subject and went out of their way to find ways to use my skill. So don’t step on toes and don’t dismiss people; they may be your golden ticket.
Building an empire requires a kind of knowledge that is taught mostly in the school of life experience, but there are a few tricks you can learn that make the life lessons a little easier. So tell me, what does your map look like
