It’s becoming more common these days to work from home. We’re either bringing work home with us or running a home business.
A cluttered environment can stifle your productivity. Maximizing your productivity when working from home can be possible by simply turning your chosen space into an area that gives you an incentive to work.
You need to prepare yourself mentally, and you can start by maximizing your space.
The Right Desk
Ideally, your desk should be neat, contain the things you need most, and be arranged in a way that makes them easy to find or use. There are three desk styles you can choose from—a straight desk (desk with drawers), a corner desk (with drawers so you can work from two areas), or a desk with hutch (desk with drawers and shelving either above you or to the side, some have both). The third option is great if you need extra storage!
The Right Chair
Picking a chair that’s right for your body is vital to your productivity. You don’t want to constantly shift yourself in order to find a comfortable position. It’s distracting and unhealthy. It’s also a good idea to have a swivel chair so you can move easily between different parts of your desk, especially if it’s a corner one.
If you’re short to medium height, you’ll find a chair with a low or medium back to have adequate support. When browsing, the words ‘study’ and ‘task’ are used to describe this type of chair. If you’re on the tall side, a chair with a higher back will offer greater support. Look for words like ‘office’ or ‘executive’. An ergonomic chair is important if you have back issues.
The Right Storage
Sometimes, the drawers and shelves that are attached to the desk aren’t enough. You might need filing cabinets or bookcases. They’re available in a range of sizes to suit your needs and budgets, and they look much nicer than they did a couple of decades ago! You should be able to find storage units that tie in with the rest of your décor. Super Amart has package deals that include everything you need for a home office.
The Right Lighting
How your office is lit can greatly impact your productivity. Our eyes, and therefore our brains, respond well to natural light. During the daytime, allow plenty of natural light in, but if there’s a lot of sun, make sure you have a little bit of a filter, so as not to strain your eyes and fade your furniture or carpet.
At night, don’t be tempted to work under dim light, but don’t go to the other extreme and use a very bright light. That will prevent you from sleeping well later. Go middle range and get a lamp that spreads light out over a decent amount of space.
Working from home shouldn’t be a chore but rather something that brings you satisfaction. By maximizing your space, you should find your productivity increases, too. Storing your belongings in an organized fashion will make you feel like you’re better able to tackle the tasks ahead, and it will help speed things along, so you can have time for the things you really enjoy!
