We are visual beings. People love to see colors and movement. That being the case, what can we use as a marketing strategy for our business that uses visuals? We can use infographics.
Before we can implement anything into our marketing strategy, we need to know what it is we are going to use and why. So what is an infographic? It’s a way of telling a story or sharing data in a visually appealing manner using graphics.
That’s the what. But why are they so popular and why should we use them? For one thing our eyes are naturally drawn to beautiful images. Images are like eye candy for your audience.
There are many reasons why you should be using infographics, but in my opinion, here are the top seven:
1. Skimming
How many times have you looked at an article or post and skimmed through it? Most people today don’t read full blog posts, they skim through to see what catches their eye. That’s one of the reasons list posts are so popular. It makes it easier for people to get the information they are looking for.
2. Images are Processed Faster than Text
The next time you are driving down the road, think about that curve sign you see ahead. You know you need to slow down without using any words. Your brain processed that faster than if there was text to read.
3. Bite-sized Information
Infographics break up the information making it easier for our brain to digest.
4. Color Creates Interest
Blog posts with images get viewed 94% more often than those with text only.
5. Images Make It Easier to Follow
When you are learning anything, it’s easier to have the steps you need to follow. Your infographic is like a recipe. You know there are logical steps that need to be followed so your cake or soufflé comes out perfectly. An infographic will help your audience understand what steps they need to follow to get their desired results.
6. Traffic
Using infographics can grow your website traffic an average of 12% more than those who don’t use them.
7. Shareable
When you use an infographic, it’s a fun way to share your information in a visual way. When done correctly, it can be a powerful marketing tool that gets your brand in front of others. This brings more brand awareness for you.
The list could go on and on, but I’m sure by now you realize that using infographics should be part of your visual marketing strategy.
If you’ve never created an infographic then think about your story. What points do you want your readers, customers, etc. to know about you, your company, or the data you want to share?
For example, if you want to share some data, here’s an example of an infographic that deals with cell phone activity. Hopefully this will get your creative juice flowing.
Start mapping out the information you want to share, and you will be on your way to creating your first infographic.
