There are so many things you can learn about marketing your business from the world around you. For example, I love watching the Food Network channel. Recently I started watching their Food Network Star Kids. It’s amazing the talent these children have!
What made me perk up was that one of the contestants has her own YouTube cooking show. She is only 11 or 12 years old. She used her show as a demo for why the Food Network Star Kids should have her as one of the contestants. As of this writing she is still on the show.
Today, with all the options of live broadcasting many still choose to host their shows on YouTube. You see, YouTube is an extremely social site. Let’s take a look at some of their stats.
YouTube by the Numbers
- The number of people who use YouTube: 1,300,000,000.
- 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute!
- Almost 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day.
- The average number of mobile YouTube video views per day is 1,000,000,000.
- More than half of YouTube views come from mobile devices.
- YouTube is the second largest search engine.
Of course, these numbers change, but if your business is looking to gain more online visibility, YouTube is a site you might want to consider as part of your marketing strategy.
YouTube Do’s and Don’ts
Here are some “do’s and don’ts” when it comes to using YouTube in business marketing.
1. Have a Strategy
Do not put a video up just for the sake of having a video. You need to have a strategy in mind. Ask yourself, why do I want to create videos? What are you trying to accomplish with your videos? Are you looking to sell a product or service or to gain recognition?
2. Write Your Message
Now that you know why you want to create videos, you have to craft your message. Write down what you want to say and how you want to say it.
3. Practice
Practice, practice, practice. The reason? You want the words to flow freely. You don’t want any “umms” and “ahhs”. You want to sound natural, not as if you are reading a script.
4. Create a Series
Create a series of videos. Perhaps you want to give tips on how to write catchy headlines. Maybe you want to share “how to” videos. Don’t just publish one video. Publish an entire series.
5. Plan Ahead
Plan to film several videos at a time. Let’s face it, once you are dressed and ready to go, make the most of it! I like to film several videos all at once because it saves time. Schedule a “filming” day every week or once a month — whatever feels comfortable for you.
Getting your business seen and heard is a must, and video is one of the best ways to accomplish this!
