Everyone needs a tribe, and that tribe should include four essential roles – the problem solver, the connector, the cheerleader, and the challenger. This is the crew that will help you achieve every success.
Whether you have folks in your corner that fill more than one of these roles, or multiple people that satisfy each, these are the four vacancies you always want filled. And if you think you have an opening on the team, keep your eyes open for potential applicants.
1. Problem Solver
The Problem Solver will persevere until they have an answer to any question. Creative and determined, they will talk to you for hours on end to help you find a solution for any challenge.
They’re not the person to go to when you want to lick your wounds and drown your sorrows. They’re the person you go to when you’re ready to ACT. Their suggestions might not always be spot-on first time around, but they will help you think through all options and they’ll never rest until the problem is solved.
2. Connector
If the Connector doesn’t know someone who has the thing you need, they will know someone who knows someone. You can never know too many Connectors. For any service, good, solution, or asset you may need, Connectors are like human Google but better, because their recommendations are always thoughtful and trustworthy.
Connectors take pure joy in answering the question, “Do you know anyone who…?” They’ll save you time, money, and energy by being able to introduce you to just the person you need to meet at just the right time.
3. Cheerleader
The Cheerleader knows you can do it. When you have self-doubt, they know you can walk on water. When you wonder how you’re going to get it all done, the Cheerleader reminds you that you will.
They are the unabashed champion of everything you do. When you’re weary, they carry you. When you’re unsure, they’re certain. And whenever you need them, they are always, always there.
4. Challenger
The Challenger doesn’t take any of your nonsense. When you’re inclined to give excuses, shy away from an obstacle, or point fingers when things go wrong, the Challenger reminds you where you could have done better. They’re not mean, but they have big dreams for what you can achieve.
They are on the sidelines, yelling at you to push harder, go faster, keep moving. If you say you’re going to the moon, they’ll ask, “Why not the stars?” Whether they’re pushing or pulling, they’ll get you up the hill one way or another.
Think about not only who you have on your team but also, the people whose team you are on. Who are you a connector for? A problem solver? Can you check in with them and see how they’re doing?
