This week we launched a new nonprofit organization serving disadvantaged girls ages 9-17 in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. I thought you’d be interested in seeing the press release for it. If any of you are in the DC area, please join us.
Veronica Eyenga Was Looking for Friends. She Found a Cause
Veronica Eyenga, President of VBP OutSourcing, recently launched My Girlfriend’s House, Inc., a nonprofit organization of professional women dedicated to helping young girls in the DMV area.
Glen Burnie, MD (May 3, 2011) When Veronica Eyenga first created My Girlfriend’s House, Inc., she had the intentions of making new friends in an area unfamiliar to her. She soon realized that a bigger cause lay ahead.
“I moved to a new area where I didn’t know anyone so I created a group on Meetup.com,” said Eyenga. “It started out as a social group of professional women, but the members wanted to do more for the community.”
So the meetup.com group became My Girlfriend’s House, Inc., a nonprofit organization where members socialize and enjoy monthly outings, but also dedicate much of their time to helping the young women in their community.
The organization, which launched its website today at www.mygirlfriendshouse.org, hosts several charity events and drives to support the young ladies in the area. Along with its signature Purse String for My Girlfriends effort, which supplies young girls with purses stuffed with necessities, the organization also created programs that give clothing, school supplies and college scholarships to the young women that they sponsor.
“We are all in a position to give back,” Eyenga, who is the owner of VBP OutSourcing, a government consulting firm, stated, “so while we still enjoy socializing and making new friends, it is more important that we help these girls become professional young women. From mentoring to professional development to making sure they have the necessities for everyday life, My Girlfriend’s House is dedicated to helping these young ladies in any way possible.”
The organization, which has grown to over 50 Girlfriends, hopes to get community members and groups involved in their efforts. Eyenga also encourages anyone interested in joining or supporting the group to visit www.mygirlfriendshouse.org.

What an excellent thing for you to do! As leaders we do need to lead by example. I am glad to see to even in the midst of what I know is a busy time, you still had the time as a CEO to start such a selfless cause. I look forward to reading more about this new organization.
