A common mistake that start-up entrepreneurs make with their online presence is trying to save money by doing it all themselves and not hiring a website designer. While this may save money in the short term, in the end you usually end up with a design that you don’t really love, and a site that doesn’t really make money for you and your business.
One of the best investments you can make in your business it to hire a professional website designer to help you get your online presence off on the right foot. The benefits to working with an expert designer are numerous. Here are just a few:
1. Save Oodles of Time
Setting up a brand new website and social media presence takes time. And if you aren’t familiar with the process, or aren’t quite sure what you’re doing, it takes even MORE time. This can quickly suck up hours, days or even weeks of your precious time.
Wouldn’t it be better to spend that time running your business, making sales, connecting with customers? Hire a designer and leave all that time-consuming work to them. Not only will it mean that YOU don’t have to do it, but since this is what they do all the time, they’ll be able to finish it MUCH faster than you would doing it on your own.
2. A New Perspective
You have a very personal perspective on your business. You’re in it day in and day out. You live, breath and talk your business. You know it inside and out.
But when it comes to creating a design to represent your business, this inside perspective can actually hinder you. It may be hard to see the design from the perspective of a potential client. You need a new, outside perspective. So hire a designer.
Your designer will bring a fresh point of view to the project. They’ll be able to look at you and your business from the perspective of your customer. They’ll see things that you can’t see because you’re so close to it. And they’ll be able to help you create a design that is a true reflection of you and your business.
3. They Know what Works
A good website designer has both experience and knowledge. They know what works, and what doesn’t. You probably don’t. You may have some ideas from things you’ve read or heard, but you likely don’t have the kind of in depth experience and knowledge that you designer does.
Take advantage of that experience! Hire a good designer who knows what they are doing and knows how to help you and your business be successful online. They’ll be able to help you make it WORK and get the results you want.
Your designer will be able to help you figure out what should go on your website, what should go on the front page, what colors and images will work best for your design, and many more important elements of a successful website and social media presence.
4. Less Chance of Mistakes
There’s nothing worse than getting your website and social media presence all set up, then realizing a few weeks or months down the road that you missed a critical piece. Maybe you forgot to put your contact info on the website, or there’s a major typo in your pricing or other info.
Granted, mistakes DO happen, but if you have an expert designer managing and working on your project, you’ll now have two sets of eyes to catch those mistakes before things go live. A good website designer will also have a specific process they follow to ensure they get everything set up the way it needs to be. They’ll have systems in place to make sure they don’t miss something.
5. Look Like the Expert You Are
You are an expert in your field. That’s why your customers buy from you! Your website and social media presence needs to convey that professionalism and portray you as that expert.
A designer can help you to create a professional image that does just that. Not only can they help you look like an amazing expert, but they’ll be able to incorporate your own unique personality, style and passion into the design, as well, so that it truly is a beautiful reflection of both your business and yourself, with all your wonderful gifts, expertise, talents and passions.
6. Get a Guide to Walk You Through the Process
Setting up a website and social media presence is a big project, with lots of steps you need to take along the way to get to the end result that you want. When you hire a designer to do it for you, they can then serve as a guide to walk you through the process.
Your designer will know what needs to be done, and when. They’ll be able to take you through the process, letting you know what they need from you and when they need it. This way you won’t have to try and keep track of all of those moving pieces, and you won’t have to try and figure it out all on your own. Your guide knows the way, and if you follow them it will make the whole process so much easier and enjoyable.
If you truly want to grow your business, get your big message out into the world and make more money, then it’s time to take your online presence seriously and invest in a good website designer. Don’t settle for something you don’t love and that doesn’t work. Get some help to create a presence and marketing that is truly irresistible. It’s an investment that will pay off over and over again.

Oh I definitely believe in hiring a dedicated person to do your web design and social media. In fact, I think it’s best to hire one person for each of these tasks so you can focus, knowing that you’re leaving the work in expert hands. Of course, this means you have to hire the best ones who can do the most for your business.

Thanks for the comment, Zsa Zsa!
Yes, being able to focus and leave the work in expert hands is great! And it is definitely important to find someone who is the best fit for you and your business and can help you get the results you want. 🙂

These are great points but you don’t need to hire a web designer to get these results.
If you use WordPress (free) as your publishing system you can use a premium theme as your design.
Costs vary depending on where you buy from, but Studio Press and Elegant Themes are two well-known companies where you can buy a professionally designed theme for around $50.
An added bonus is that these themes come with an options panel which allows you to rearrange elements on the page – moving an email subscription box to a better position, for example – without having to hire a web designer / developer.
