While the Forbes 400 wealthiest Americans in 2013 list includes only 43 women, the Fortune 40 under 40 in 2013 list is nearly gender equal.
Seventeen women appear in the list of 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are making a big impact on the business world in 2013, but only 3 of them appear in the top ten, only four appear in the top 20, and only seven appear in the top 30. The majority (13 women) appear in the bottom ten in the Fortune ranking.
This is an improvement over the 2012 list of 40 under 40 when only 11 women appeared on the list with just one in the top 10 (Marissa Mayer) and just two in the top 20.
