PRESS RELEASE
September 23 2010 – Being a full time mum whilst running your own business is no mean feat, yet Fiona King from Glasgow has done it so well that her success has been recognised at the 2010 Mumpreneur Conference and Awards sponsored by Ryman Stationary.
Fiona’s business, TotsBots, was chosen by a panel of independent judges as the winner of the Best Green Business Award. The award, sponsored by directories business Yell, was presented on Saturday 18th September at the Heart of England Conference Centre, Warwickshire.
TotsBots design and manufacture washable nappies. The business was set up in 2000 after the birth of Fiona’s second child when she made the decision to start using reusable nappies but was unable to find anything on the market that suited her needs. Since developing her initial product, TotsBots are now available to buy online, on the high street and even in Mothercare. In a nutshell, TotsBots put performance, quality and ethics above the bottom line.
Kimberley Watts-Fitzsimmons, corporate responsibility manager for Yell in the UK, said: “As a champion of UK enterprise, Yell is delighted to be involved in this year’s Mumpreneur Awards. It is inspiring to witness the energy, passion and enthusiasm by mothers who have successfully started their own businesses. Yell is proud of its outstanding environmental credentials, and as a sponsor of the Best Green Business Award we are impressed by the environmental innovation and awareness shown by nominees in this category.”
Theo Paphitis, BBC Dragon and chairman of Ryman stationery, said: “I take my hat off to mumpreneurs who combine the herculean task of looking after a family and running a business. Ryman stationery is very proud to sponsor the Mumpreneur Conference and Awards because we’ve been helping mums, dads, students, families and business owners for well over a century. Mumpreneurs are inspirational because very often they are at the heart of their communities as well as their homes.”
