Isla Mujeres, Mexico — Women from around the world are making plans to converge on a small Mexican island to celebrate their lives and mark an auspicious moment in human history.
In 2012, the Mayan calendar will finish one 5,125-year cycle and start another one.
We Move Forward 2012, a three-day conference and celebration, will bring women of all ages and from all backgrounds together at Isla Mujeres, just off the northeast coast of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, March 8th through 10th, to mark the start of the new Mayan calendar cycle.
It’s no accident that the event begins on International Women’s Day. Isla Mujeres – Spanish for The Island of Women – is home to the temple of Ix Chel, the Mayan goddess of women, fertility, healing and abundance, making it an ideal place to host a celebration of femininity.
“The Mayans believe that 2012 is a time to move forward, evolve and grow,” says organizer Janeen Halliwell, a Canadian working remotely from Isla Mujeres. “This event is for women who want to realize their potential as they move forward in a desired direction.”
We Move Forward 2012 gives participants a chance to immerse in Mayan and Mexican culture, connect and create a community with women from around the world and take part in interactive workshops designed to celebrate, shape and clarify their values, visions, voices and vessels.
An impressive line-up of internationally-renowned speakers will share stories of how reached their potential. The featured speakers include:
- Canadian-born actress Wendy Crewson, who will speak about how she built a career out of her passion for acting and some of the incredible women she has portrayed.
- Bal Arneson, TV’s Spice Goddess, who will talk about her journey from humble beginnings in rural India to her life as an international television icon.
- Author and journalist Mellissa Fung, who will share the story of the 28 days she spent in captivity in Afghanistan and the stories of the truly courageous women who remain there.
Coupled with activities that will leave participants with insights and tools to help them discover their own potential, the conference promises to be life changing.
