We all need a little help along the way.
Making the decision to go out on your own is difficult but a ton of fun if you do it correctly and have the right pieces to the puzzle. Women are becoming more prevalent as entrepreneurs, it can be a very empowering thing to have your own business and be successful at it. It doesn’t matter what your business is, you can make it work, but there are also times where we get the superwomen complex. I am guilty of it.
It’s when if someone were looking in your window they might think you are a crazed zombie because you are running on double shot lattes, have bloodshot eyes and are going in a million different directions but are having a hard time finishing anything on time.
If you are a successful entrepreneur….you will eventually need help if you want to make any money. This is the hardest part for most (me included). For some it is simply that this business is your baby, and you just don’t want anyone else to touch it. Many feel that if they just do it themselves, more efficiently, it will work. I assure you, it may work for a while but eventually, it wont. You are going to need people to help you, an assistant, employee, contractor, VA, someone! It could be as simple as weeding through your email for you, or checking voicemails and returning calls. It could also be as complex as helping with the actual product or service. Either way, find people you are comfortable working with, that you know you can train quickly because things move quickly. They need to be willing to jump in an learn things themselves, and then…HAVE THEM HELP YOU.
Having your own business forces you to find yourself. You need to know who you are, what you want and your goals….then be willing to evolve as things move along and change. This means we have to change as women too. That part of our personality that hated it when there were “group projects” in school….even in elementary school. “Why do I have to work with other people, they just mess things up!” Well, it’s that part of you that likely helped to make that decision to be an entrepreneur, but if you don’t let yourself evolve a little, and give up some of that control, you will get stuck. Part of being successful is being able to grow, you need to let your business grow and having some (really reliable, well trained, driven) help, will allow you and your business grow successfully.
