Have you found yourself stuck in a life rut? Have you found that your career path is not developing as you had hoped? What happened to that goal you had aspired to attain? Too far off and seemingly out of reach?
Most likely, life happened. Other priorities arose, you changed direction in certain areas with personal life or career and now you find that you are not where you wanted your career to be.
Well everyone, experiences a time when things seem to be going off track, but there are ways for you to re-assess, get back on track and reach those dreams—maybe a little modified, but still possible.
But achieving success—however you define it—takes discipline and the willingness to dream big and attend to the small stuff. Here are three tips to get back on track and reach your dreams.
1. Sharpen Your Focus
Now is the time to re-assess where you are and where you want to be. Create a revised goal that specifically delineates what you are looking to achieve. Keep your goal visible at all times. Post it on your desk or on your smart phone. This goal should be your incentive to get moving again.
Limit your worrying. That is a very unproductive activity. Instead of worrying about what might be, refocus on the action steps you need to follow to get you back on track and moving toward that goal.
As you sharpen your focus on your goal, define boundaries for the way you spend your time. Know what time wasters to which you are liable to succumb! Each day determine the best use of your time so that you are productive and moving forward.
2. Build Your Competencies
To reach your dreams, you will need a goal and an action plan to achieve that goal. With the action plan, prepare for two steps ahead on any project in which you are engaged. Identify what skills you will need to improve and what skills you will need to learn in order to successfully complete your action plan.
Keep learning. It is life’s best return on investment. When working with others, ask questions, be curious and act like a sponge.
3. Ignite Your Passion
The effort is well spent if you can reach your dreams. Discipline yourself to do something every day that leaves a positive and lasting impact on family, co-workers, or friends. Be definite and believe in yourself.
Say you will do or not do something rather than saying you will try to do something. As you travel the path to reach your dreams expect the very best of yourself and others.
