So, you woke up one morning and decided you had had enough of the corporate world…
Maybe you had a baby or two and you thought, “Hey, why not do my own thing so I can watch them grow up?” A noble thought indeed. Too many parents do not see their kids much as they are working so hard to provide a living for them.
Great, well… It is time to begin. But instead of beginning, you are busy learning everything you can about lead generation, marketing, sales, ideal customers and so on and so on. You are getting slowly but surely, bogged down in the minutiae of life and business, yet, nothing has been sold yet.
And really, you are not in business, until you sell something. You know that right?
Now, I am a firm believer that every good thing starts in a thought, but if you stay stuck in that thought because you pretend to be taking action on your dream by taking part in a whole lot of busy work, then unfortunately, you are deceiving yourself.
The thought (dream) must become rooted in productive action. And it never is as complicated as we think it has to be.
The truth is, your people (your potential customers) just want to solve their problems. They do not care as much as you do about how amazing your product or service is. What they do want to know is, “Will it solve my problem?” They want to know:
- “Will it make my skin glow so men stare at me when I am out each night and I find my soul mate?”
- “Will it make my bum look small so I am the talk of the town?”
- “Will it stop the body odor that keeps people far away from me?”
- “Will I be able to lose those extra pounds that mean I have love handles in places I do not want?”
- “Will that TV link up with my iPhone so I can make my friends watch my drunken antics on the large screen?”
And so on and so forth…
These are the questions your customers are asking. And if you can supply an answer to any of these questions or any other ones that are more suited to your industry then you are onto a winner.
Let’s go back in time to when there was no money. There was only bartering one product for another or one service for another. Do you think there was a whole lot of figuring out how to lead generate and so on? People just told other people what they had and what they were willing to exchange it for.
You can start doing exactly that.
Yes, it is good to learn this stuff but maybe, at the start, you just need to offer your products and services to as many people as possible without all the distractions of trying to do it the perfect way. This does tend to leave people in the dreaming phase for far too long.
To be successful, you do need to do the work. So begin and pick up all the rest as you go.
