When I was work
ing on the cover for my new book, “GUTSY: How Women Leaders Make Change”, I spent time with the designer looking at all the overt and subtle meanings of the word “GUTSY“.
Karrie, www.karrieross.com, asked me what the smallest visual I could think of to demonstrate what “GUTSY” means.
I sat with closed eyes and saw a hand with elegant long fingers and well sculpted nails in front of me, palm out in the universal sign for stop. For me GUTSY women will take a stand and are not willing just to go along with situations that are unhealthy and cause dissention.
Then she asked me to find the largest visual that would call out a “GUTSY” reaction.
In my inner vision I saw a woman returning from the first trip to an unseen planet standing in a field with lots of banners behind her speaking to a vast crowd.
This process of going from smallest to largest image of a concept is part of our GUTSY WOMEN RETREATS and can be used for anything you like. Take the word work or family or leadership or beauty and play with the images that come to you. It is a mind-opening exercise.
Back to being a GUTSY CHICK, I started to think about what is very close to all women. We don’t think about it consciously all that often, however we are the egg-bearers of the world.
An egg breaking open is close to all of us as women whether we have the experience of birthing a child or not.
An egg breaking open is an image of freedom, of new beginnings, or something coming to fruition. And so, with Karrie’s help, I chose an egg exploding to reveal….ta da…. the GUTSY in all of us.
